Lai Wah

Had dinner at Lai Wah on saturday. it’s a really old chinese restaurant that used to be really famous in the past. the food is still of very high standard (: it had a makansutra dine-in session on saturday morning, which mummy, papa and Z attended. after sampling the food, they were reminded of how wonderful was, and so we headed back there for dinner the very same evening! crazy right! but my family has a tendency to revisit a place/area twice in a day :p these are the dishes we sampled:
one of my favourite dishes ever! -the YAM RING :D the yam was crizpy on the outside and soft inside, fried just perfectly. there was a variety of ingredients inside like chicken, beansprouts and cashew nuts which i LOVE (: and some like capsicum which i don’t like so much :P
this was probably my favourite dish of the day (: I love tofu! it was tofu fried lightly, it was very tasty inside, and i loved the egg  on top of it! :D the only not-so-appetizing part was the mixed vegetables - i don’t like peas :P but i just avoided them, so it was fine! yummy! (:
This was an interesting dish – chicken with ham! Haha I thought it sounded kinda funny :P but it was nice! The chicken was SUPER soft and tender, I wonder how they did that?? And the ham added an extra dimension to the dish (:
The last dish was eggplant in hot pot. I was actually slightly disappointed with this dish ): I usually like eggplant (or brinjal) a lot, ever since I learnt to appreciate it’s taste. And there are many places with SUPER nice eggplant – even most hawker centre stalls selling rice with dishes serve quite decent eggplant. This one was NOT bad. But it was not that good either. Maybe because it was braised instead of stir-fried, it seemed slightly bland, and the sauce did not enhance its taste much, which was a pity because it could have saved this dish.
Nevertheless, the food at lai wah is as tasty as ever, and being one of the four ‘legendary’ Chinese restaurants in Singapore in the past, it is quite a must-try! It’s Cantonese food! And I’m a Cantonese ;) try!!! Nice cuisine (:
