Zhou’s Kitchen

my weekends always revolve around food. OMGGGG, i feel like a pig ): but food is good, and i enjoy it :D
because we were so full from our breakfast/brunch at Swensen’s this morning, we decided to combine lunch & dinner as well, and have high-tea instead! yes, not much difference, i KNOW. :/ so full now! >.< we went to Zhou’s Kitchen which is part of the Tung Lok Group of restaurants. they have an ala carte dim sum high-tea buffet throughout the week (:
started off with some hot & spicy soup (: I couldn’t resist it, despite the fact that i’m coming down with a sore throat and runny nose :P totally killing my throat :P anyway, it was yummy!! i also tried the seaweed soup, which was surprisingly tasty and had some nice mushrooms inside (:
ah, look at the array of food! actually we ordered MORE than this, but i didn’t take photos of all.
1. carrot cake - nice, crispy, tasty
2. wo tie - inside was full of veggies, but quite tasty, nevertheless
3. drunken chicken - i didn’t really like this although mummy and papa loved it enough to order a second helping. it is cold and there is a slight hint of wine.
4. garlic chicken - now this was interesting! for lovers of garlic, this will definitely appeal to you (:
5. meat dumplings - i still prefer this to wo tie, cos meat always tastes better! :P
6. “phoenix" claw - actually it’s chicken feet, for those who don’t know. i don’t really like it, but the rest of my family loved it! supposed to be good for strengthening legs! no idea how, since chickens have such skinny legs :P
7. har gow - shrimp dumplings. personally i didn’t really like the taste of the shrimp in this dumpling? >.<
8. char siew sou - i can NEVER survive a dim sum without ordering the barbequed pork pastry (: but this one was slightly disappointing considering the MUCH NICER ones elsewhere! xP
9. char siew bao - the bun was nice and fluffy, but like the char siew sou, i felt that meat was slightly lacking >.<
funny that a chinese restaurant served mee goreng, but it was GOOD! :) :)
i loved the sweet & sour fish!!!!! totally reminded me of the one i loved in rj as well (: (: the fish is nicely fried and soft and fluffy inside and the sauce is just YUMMY!
the smoked duck was pretty interesting. i liked the softness of the duck but it was slightly salty and tasted like ham, probably because it was smoked. there was some jellyfish thingy that came with it too, but i didn’t dare to try it :P
i loved the fried mushrooms with wasabi!! such an interesting dish!!! (: fried mushrooms on their own are already delicious. when slathered with WASABI sauce…OMG! a wonderful blend of tastes (: yummy!
finally, the dessert! i ordered guilin gao, cos it’s supposed to be good for my sore throat, but i felt there wasn’t enough honey (they didn’t let us pour by ourself! ): ) so it was too bitter for me. but i really loved the peanut glutinous balls!!!! they are sort of like fried tang yuan (: yum!
