There are so many brunch places that i've yet to try out! I'm patiently exploring them one by one. after all, there is only one sunday a week for me to visit these places, right? Sadly, saturdays are too much of a rush for all of us, so it is never an option. hey, i can no longer say TGI Friday! ): nowadays, it's more like TGI Sunday? and that is IF my sunday is not occupied by anything. damn, school is crazy isn't it?! my whole week is all messed up. haha okay, i should stop complaining and get on with the food! :D
there are two branches of Epicurious - one at robertson quay and the other at rail mall. apparently the one at robertson quay is much more well-received because they do not take reservations for brunch :/ hmph. actually we were all ready to go there anyway, but i decided to call up the rail mall branch to try my luck. and yes! they took reservations! (: so naturally we headed there instead. BY THE WAY, I DROVE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I PASSED MY TEST! :D possibly giving my family a good heart exercise in the process :p heehee. but it was fun! i drove on an expressway for the first time. but it takes a lot of getting used to. since i drove manual cars while learning (YIPEE, i have to brag about that xD), the feel is kinda different for auto cars. the good thing is that i no longer have to worry about the embarrassing problem of stalling :p hehe. yup, so i drove all the way to bukit timah (: not bad for my first drive huh ;)
there were many many breakfast items on the menu which i wanted to order!! but i finally decided on the eggs benedict ($12 for 2, $6.50 for 1). since we were sharing, i ordered two. this is only the second time i've eaten eggs benedict, so i can't really make a good comparison, but i felt a twinge of disappointment with this eggs ben, compared to the one i had at Riders' Cafe (btw, they've revamped their menu, so there are no more pancakes ): don't know about their eggs ben though). the eggs ben at epicurious is decent. i mean, look at the oozy hollandaise sauce and pretty-looking poached eggs. but biting into it, there came the disappointment. the english muffin seemed rather hard. crispy is something else altogether! but this was TOUGH. which made it a bit difficult to eat. and the egg. omg ): the yolk was not.runny.at.all! WHY?! i expected the yolk to come oozing out once i cut the egg, but no, it was all firmly held together. hmph.
the Full Monty is exactly that - the works. for $20, you get 3 eggs (sunny side up/poached), sausage, bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, potatoes, buttered toast, 1 regular coffee/tea and orange juice. wow. i didn't really try much of it, but it seems pretty good. i liked the buttered toast! simple and nice (: and the orange juice was freshly squeezed! yummm!
the pancakes ($4 for 1, $7 for 3) were yummy! soft and fluffy, they remind me of mcdonald's pancakes (: and that's a compliment! topped with maple syrup, they were a lovely treat (:
the baked eggs with toast soldiers ($6.50 for 1, $12 for 2) was a pretty interesting dish. it's eggs with bacon, mushroom, tomato and cream, covered with cheese and baked till gooey - all in that little cup. cute (: it tasted like creamy spaghetti sauce. dip the toast soldiers in for a nice topping, or eat them on their own. it was pretty nice! (: except that just like creamy spaghetti sauce, you get sick of it after awhile :P
