Waroeng Penyet

yay it's great that i'm now starting to have more time to explore the places around school! during the semester, its always mugging time right after eating so we're always so lazy to travel farther than the pathetic kopitiam across school to eat, which is really a waste because there are so many hidden treasures all around school! (: all unexplored and gone to waste for a whole year. it's time to explore these places during the holidays now that we can spend hours slowly eating and enjoying our food xD whee!

unfortunately, for a start, i didn't really have a really good experience, but then again, it's only one restaurant and i hope the rest will be better! (:

waroeng penyet is located somewhere along liang seah street (so near school, yet i never ventured there for a whole year!!), but somehow i can't find its address on the website. maybe this outlet is new. we were really excited when we came to this restaurant, partly cos we were so hungry already! :P i love indonesian bbq grilled chicken! this place's specialty is actually its ayam penyet, the flattened (why flattened i wondered?? did they sit on it or what?! haha kidding) fried chicken. i have to say that this picture is kind of a misrepresentation of the size. it looks perfectly fine here! but in reality the size was tiny!! and when I say its tiny, it really has to be tiny. all the guys were complaining about its size. and it was not cheap please. the thing is, the dish on its own does not include rice, and if i'm not wrong it costs around $6, except that all the fried dishes have the option of a value meal, where you get rice and a tiny bowl of soup for $5.90 for the ayam penyet. i didn't try the fried chicken, but my friends who had it didn't have any complaints so i guess it was fine.

the bakso penyet, flattened fried beef balls ($5.50 for value meal) looked yummy!! but i didn't try it either :P haha. the chili in this restaurant is SUPER powerful haha. damn spicy!

i ordered the ayam panggang ($6, grilled chicken), which i have to complain about! wtsssss. just look at the photo. this was BEFORE i started eating okay. and there was a whole chunk of meat missing!!! it was pathetic, my naked chicken. zomg. how awful. i was sooo disappointed by the serving :( i guess the taste was fine though. and i liked how the meat fell off the bone easily, so it was really easy to eat (: the chili that came with it was quite shiok!! but i preferred the sambal chili that came with the fried dishes. the tofu was tasty! but i think it was due to the fact that it was quite salty, so not exactly a good thing.

we also ordered a side dish, the batagor ($5) which was fried mixed dumplings. actually i have no idea how it was dumplings cos i didn't see any at all! lol! it was kinda like tofu, fishcake-ish kind of stuff. oh! kind of like ngo hiang. but it was quite yummy, i liked the peanut sauce.

yupps so that's it for this restaurant, but honestly nothing great. i was so disappointed by my pathetic grilled chicken that i had the EXACT SAME THING for dinner at plaza sing's kopitiam! first time trying it! :D AND IT WAS DAMN AWESOME. cheaper somemore. $5.50! (: omg im a fan now xD whee!
