Chef d'Table

this restaurant just opened pretty recently! and they serve yummy european-ish kind of food (: the set menu is probably slightly expensive for a student on a regular basis, but it's worth it for a once-in-awhile splurge. the best thing is that the set menu changes every two weeks! i love such restaurants with creative chefs (: makes going back so much more appealing.

the set lunch is a basic price of $28++ and you can top up for a wider variety of appetizers and main courses. the 3 course set lunch consists of appetizer, main course and dessert, as well as, coffee/tea.

we started off the meal with a complimentary basket of lightly seasoned garlic bread. it was yummy! the bread was nicely toasted and the flavour was just right, not too overwhelming.

since it was three of us there, we ordered three sets and shared among us. for appetizers we had the lightly cured salmon carpaccio nicoise, arugula salad and red wine caramel (add $6). the salmon was slightly smoked, and delicately thin. i loved the little bits of ihavenoideawhat on top of it.

the lobster bisque (add $6) was one of the best i've had. the broth was thick and flavourful, good!

we also had the mixed salad (add $6) which was a lovely combination of vegetables, prunes and apples. i loved how the fruits added a sweetness and walnuts gave a different texture to the salad. the honey lemon vinaigrette is painstakingly made fresh by the chef and it was delicious.

out of the three main courses we had, the angel hair with lightly smoked duck meat and rocket leaves in garlic white wine sauce  was my favourite! i loved everything from the thin, smooth strands of pasta to the freshness of the vegetables and the abundance of duck meat. it was a really generous portion of duck meat! and the little chili padi added a satisfying kick to this wonderful dish.

the grilled rosemary and paprika marinated kurobuta porkloin with pineapple-prune mashed potato, zucchini fettucine pointes au beurre, apple sauce (wow such a long name O.O) was pretty good. it was loved by the guys. as the name suggests, the pork was tender, nicely done. but what i liked the most in this dish was the pineapple-prune mashed potato! this has to be the most interesting mashed potato i've ever eaten! it was sweetened by the pineapple-prune combination, and the bits of fruit in it were yummy!

the grilled wagyu beef ribeye steak served with fine asparagus, roasted pepper, mashed potato and red wine veal jus (add $18) was also nicely done, with the medium done steak. i felt that it was slightly too thin for my preference, but the good thing was that the meat was still juicy.

there were only three choices for dessert, so naturally we selected all three to try. the dessert of the day was a crepe (i finally know how to pronounce this word!! :P haha say 'craipe') and i'm always so amazed by the inside of a blueberry! i'm not sure whether i've mentioned it before, but yeah i'm totally fascinated by how funny it looks inside haha! i realised you always pop blueberries into your mouth, and have no idea what they actually look like. lols. i didnt take a great liking to this dish. i felt it was pretty average? the softness of the crepe was nice, but i found the sauce that came with it slightly odd.

the spiced poached red wine pear with vanilla and chocolate chip ice cream was perfect in every way. i loved this dessert! the pear was soft but still retained a bit of crunchiness, and the red wine and spices lent a delicious flavour to it. even the chocolate chip ice cream complemented it nicely!

finally, the mille feuille of peach custard with berry compote was a delicate pastry sprinkled with some sugar, and i loved the lime sorbet that came with it.

okay i'm really lazy now. time to rest! haha.
