Element, Amara Hotel

After our very satisfying breakfast this morning, we continued our Fathers’ Day celebration by having a brunch (actually more like high-tea!) buffet at Element in Amara Hotel.
Just a mere three hours after our breakfast! Imagine how (not) hungry we were. But, as seasoned foodies (it’s almost impossible to diet with my family :/), we rose to the occasion. We LOVE buffets. But we try not to have it too often, for obvious reasons…
So anyway, first things first. Buffet attire! Loose clothing is a MUST, because buffets usually make you uncomfortably full (>.<) so you don’t want to worsen it by wearing tight clothes, especially around the tummy. For gals, I recommend empire-waisted dresses, since they’re comfy and can hide your expanded, satisfied tummy after all the food (: For guys, I’m sorry, I don’t know (:
Okay, then buffet procedure! First walk around to see the general spread, so you know what to attack first!!! :P I’m kidding. But try to eat the light stuff first obviously, like veggies and meat, so that you have room for more later on! Less carbo, you don’t want to fill your tummy at the start of the meal! Take a little bit of everything first, then if you reeaaaaaaally like it, then go back for more. Always save a special place for dessert! (:
Yup, all the above are just my personal opinion, I’m just joking (: the most important thing is to enjoy your food! :D

Ooh, so look at the spread here (: This buffet had a relatively average spread (price was $33++).
1. The salad bar – not a very wide selection of veggies, they didn’t even have normal lettuce -.- But they had this huge bowl where you could put your salad and add the sauces and toss it before loading it onto your plate.
2. Danish pastries! – OOH I love these (: There were a few types, I ate one with raisins. It was pretty good, except that it could have been crispier? Maybe they could provide a toaster ;D
3. Prawns – I didn’t try them, but they look GOOD right? :D
4. Ah, the peking duck – I was so excited when I saw it, but I was disappointed ): Instead of just having crispy duck skin inside the crepe, there was a piece of duck. If only the skin was crispier, and if there was more sauce, it would have been better. In the background was tempura, which was not bad. There was this interesting salmon version, with oats on it! Just like oat prawns which I love (:
5. Mussels – I am LEARNING to eat seafood. I tried one, not bad! (:
6. The rest of the buffet section. There was stuff like Japanese tofu, fried beancurd skin, fried chicken, longtong, etc.
Ah, I LOVE SASHIMI (: The sashimi was freshly cut, according to your order. I got salmon and tuna which were fresh and tasty, and just SUPERB with the wasabi. The wasabi here is really strong! But oh-so-AWESOME :D I love the Japanese inari too! I wonder how they make the beancurd skin so deliciously sweet?
Kueh pie-tee! Also freshly made by the chef. A wonderful mix of egg, peanut, beansprouts , prawns…need I say more?
Laksa! Freshly prepared, nice and hot. I loved the gravy! So yummy :D
There was also prata made on the spot. Chose from plain, egg and cheese. I haven’t had egg prata for so long, so that’s what I ordered. I loved the curry! It went really well with the prata. Mummy said that it was a little thick, but I didn’t mind. I love prata, as long as it’s soft, which it was (:
And then, it was time for…what else, DESSERTS! :D :D Like I said, the spread of this buffet was not much, so there weren’t many dessert choices either, but anyway, we were almost full to bursting, so it didn’t really matter I guess.
1, 2 and 5: Obviously ice cream, I’m sure you can tell ;D but done in different ways. There were a few flavors to chose from – chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, coffee and mango with different toppings like almonds, chocolate chips, blueberry compote, etc. to top it off. Since they did not have any sauces, I decided to be creative with mine and went over to the chocolate fondue fountain (oh no, I didn’t get a picture of it! xP) and got some chocolate syrup for my chocolate ice cream! :D a delightful combination! And the coolest thing was that the fondue chocolate froze because of my ice cream, so it became something like the chocolate crust on Magnum ice cream. One word, HEAVENLY :D
3. Chocolate marshmallows and strawberries!
4. Lemon cake – it was surprisingly refreshing with just the right amount of zest
6. Crème brulee (:
7. The other smaller desserts (:
I can’t believe I did not take a picture of the chocolate cakes!!!! There were two. TWO AWESOME CHOCOLATE CAKES. They were the best desserts there! One was with hazelnuts, which you know I absolutely LOVE. The other one was something like a black forest cake I think? But nicer. I don’t really like black forest cake, but that is the closest I would match that cake to.
