As you can see, my family is quite a bunch of foodies, and we love going for buffets (: Princess Terrace Cafe at Copthorne King’s hotel is mummy’s pick for Peranakan/Penang buffets thanks to their Nasi Kunyit! It’s a kind of yellow glutinous rice that is not commonly found in Singapore, and even if found, they usually don’t meet her expectations (I have no idea what is so nice about it though :P). Princess Terrace Cafe has proven to be one of the few places in Singapore that serve this dish, although it is not always included in their buffet spread! Yesterday, we were lucky (:
Starting with the main dishes, clockwise from the top left hand corner: satay, otah, nasi kunyit, curry chicken, pork roll, sambal prawns, chye sim, belachan chicken, curry vegetables and fried kway teow. The satay was really good - a very generous amount of meat, and wonderful peanut sauce to go with. I loved the packaging of the otah! So cute! (: The curry sauce from the chicken went wonderfully with the nasi kunyit. I also liked the fried kway teow which was very tasty.
Clockwise from top left: Meatball soup, popiah, Nasi Ulam, Otah, Kueh pie ti.
The meatball soup was an AWESOME soup for the soul! It was amazingly tasty and heart-warming (: ooh i feel all fuzzy inside already (: (: There is a station where you can order popiah and kueh pie ti, as well as other dishes, and they’ll make it on the spot for you. The popiah was oozing with ingredients whereas the kueh pie ti seemed rather empty in comparison. The otah (unwrapped!) didn’t really appeal to me as it was VERY coconut-y. too milky for my liking >.<
Look at that adorable little package! (: Open it up….and BING! you get a little package of nasi lemak! (: SO CUTE!! The chili was flavourful and just absolutely delicious! Unfortunately the ikan bilis was no longer crispy after being kept for so long, but it was alright (:
This was a surprisingly tasty dish! It’s pretty interesting actually - my first time coming across this dish. It’s called fried porridge! O.O doesn’t that sound like a paradox?? Haha. It was really tasty though! I have no idea what ingredients there are in it, but it was very nice (: (: There were condiments on the side to add on to the porridge, i believe, but i just ate the porridge on its own, and it tasted real good already! (:
There was also a salad bar with a rather interesting variety of salads. I liked the fruit salad, which had grapes and apples, together with other fruits. The tomato salad and chicken sausage salads were good as well. The caesar salad had quite a lot of condiments and sauces to go with it which was a delight (: The beef salad was slightly weird though, maybe because i’m not used to eating cold beef.
Delicious!!!! The peanut pancake was absolutely wonderful!!! It was sooo CRISPY! and i love anything with peanuts (: it would have been even better if there were more peanuts ;) *hint hint* (:
After hearing me ramble on for so long about the savoury dishes, you might be wondering where the desserts are? (: Well, there were 2 sweet soups, cheng tng and green bean soup (: and also an area to custom-make your own ice kachang!! WOOHOO! Mine is very simple - lots of chendol (ONLY), gula melaka and syrup! and top it off with loads of coconut milk (: SWEET! there was also a selection of nonya kueh which looked rather sparse and un-photogenic so i decided not to take a photo of it. in addition, silky beancurd! and you can add as much honey as you want (: Overall, a good spread of dishes, considering it was only a local buffet (: YAY!
