i've always been rather apprehensive about trying out gel manicures cos while it lasts forever (literally...at least until your nails grow out), the removal is such a troublesome process! nevertheless, when presented with the chance of trying it out, without having to pay a cent, why not?! :P auntie-instincts, as olivia would say :P hahaha.
and i have to say that i'm thoroughly pleased with the results x) my pretty manicured nails which i dont have to worry about being careful with ;) for once, i could fiddle with my phone and keys just as i normally do, instead of pinching them out of my bag in an awkward manner in a bid to not destroy my nails. in fact, i think i'm abusing them more than ever :P ooops. i hope i wont be the first person to report destroyed gellish nails O.O haha.
Stepping into Polished Divas Nail Lounge, it struck me how apt the name of this place was! Everything here is primed for luxury and entertainment, perfect for the diva in each of us ;)
Sinking into the plush cushioned seat, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a massage chair! I had lots of fun testing out the various functions. Imagine getting pampered by a relaxing back massage while your nails are being done. This is THE life.
Once I had gotten comfy in the massage chair, my manicurist, Germaine, presented me with two menus – one for drinks and the other for movies (ooh!). There were a selection of hot and cold beverages to chose from (I decided on green tea) and an extensive collection of movies! It was a tough choice trying to pick a movie to watch because there were so many! I never did get to finish the movie I picked, but no matter, it was great entertainment while I was there.
I was here to try out the Shellac French Manicure which is, according to Germaine, a hybrid of gellish and traditional nail polish! It is better than gellish in the sense that it lasts the same amount of time (yay! No chipping!) but the removal is less damaging on the nails. You would still have to return to the store to get the polish removed (I was absolutely amazed when Germaine liberally used nail polish remover on my nails but there wasn’t a single blemish on my perfectly smooth nails!) but instead of requiring filing which weakens the nails, Shellac can be removed by soaking your nails in acetone for a couple of minutes.
In between each coat of polish, the gel polish has to be subjected to UV light to 'cure' the polish such that it stays on, which gives it the permanent effect. It started off being a comfortably warm feeling, but after 4 rounds, it got a tad too hot. but the mild discomfort was totally worth it anyway, because I'm so happy with the results! A beautiful french manicure that is perfectly permanent. For someone who always destroys her nails one day after a manicure, I have to say that this invention is really a gift from heaven! :D
the manicure ended off with a short hand massage which was SO relaxing (despite being just a mere 5minutes) i was nearly lulled into sleep!
One last note, Polished Divas Nail Lounge is located in a house along Taman Warna (somewhere near Chip Bee Gardens). don’t be surprised at the location! I was initially slightly confused about where I should go. Just walk right into the wide open gates :)
Many thanks to Vanessa, from Reebonz City, for arranging this :)
