hmm it's kinda sad that i'm blogging about this restaurant at a time when i didn't have such a pleasant experience here! >.< previously i've always found the dim sum here pretty satisfying, but i'm not sure whether it's because of changes to the management/chef or just a one-off experience when my dining experience here wasn't as nice.
by the way, i've you've read my previous dim sum posts (like mouth restaurant, red star and taste paradise), you've probably realised that i generally seem to eat the same stuff when i go to dim sum restaurants :P oops. yup true. hahaha. just that they are all my favourite foods! ESPECIALLY THE CHAR SIEW SOU. so i can't not order them! i try to order slightly different stuff if possible though! to make it interesting haha.
i wont write much for this since they were pretty decent. clockwise from top left: xiao long bao, siew mai, century egg porridge and har gow. the xiao long bao was a bit disappointing in that many of them were stuck to the paper at the base, such that when i pulled it up with my chopsticks, the skin broke and the soup just spilled out :( so i didn't get to enjoy the soup much. nevertheless, the broth was tasty and it was still quite yummy. i liked the siew mai mainly because i felt the fish roe on top added a nice texture to its overall feel. the porridge was quite yummy too, a generous portion (it was nearly overflowing!) and the porridge had a nice, thick consistency.
i liked the bo lo bao! :D i always find the crust of it so interesting!!! i want to learn how to make it xD someday...! and it had a rather generous filling of soft, saucy, sweet char siew inside that was so yummy (:
on the other hand, i was disappointed by the char siew sou :( how can that be right?! it's my favourite dim sum dish! but it really wasn't as nice as it used to be. i used to think that the char siew sou at peach garden were of pretty good quality! but it has since worsened dramatically. for one, they were small and flat! seriously! they were really almost flat! which meant that they had less filling, which wasn't as soft and saucy as the char siew in the bo lo bao. sigh. disappointing :(
the egg tarts too, were puny. couldn't they have just made them a teensy bit bigger so that they would be more satisfying???
oh wells. and that was the end of my meal. the other thing that wasn't good was the selection of dim sum! i dunno why but there was really quite a pathetic selection! there were only two types of trolleys - one with the fried food, and the other with the steamed food. and that was it!! there wasn't even chee cheong fun. imagine that! tsktsk...
